“Whispers of innocence”
This is a book of poems of great sensitivity and feeling. Surprisingly deep for a very young author who shows levels of maturity well beyond her 13 years of age. My favourite chapter was ‘For Grandpa’. These poems were clearly written from experience: loss, sorrow, anger, love, regret, personal conversations with her now departed Grandpa. As a grandfather this spoke to me in such a deep and personal way. Zoraida is one for the future, and even now. I hope to read more as she progresses.

Zoraida is so brave and so young!! 13 and already sharing her vulnerability and experience. I found so much of her experience rings true for me (aged 48 at the time of this writing), as well as how I felt when I was her age. She is passionate, sincere, and just lovely. This is a book for everyone, but it would make an amazing experience for your tween, middle schooler, and high schooler. They will feel seen and less alone.

Be prepared for a shocking amount of pain. Zoraida is a romantic whose young heart has already suffered the pains of love, loss, grief, and betrayal. However, she also shares glimpses of hope and joy too. Pretty deep for so young a writer, and I am glad she has this outlet for her feelings. She is able to express emotions and thoughts better than most who are twice or three times her age! With such a strong start, this young writer will go far. Thank you for sharing your heart with us Zoraida!
